While the IRGC primarily exerts influence in Iraq through the use of proxies that answer directly to it (i.e. Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq, Kata'ib Hezbollah and Badr Organization et al.), there is nonetheless a limited direct presence, as reflected in this recent report from Mehr News (Iranian outlet) of the death of an IRGC commander in Iraq (specifically in the Salah ad-Din province where the city of Samarra- important to Shi'a for the two Askari shrines- is located).
