Liwa Assad Allah al-Ghalib ("Conquering Lion of God Brigade," referring to Imam Ali) is an Iraqi Shi'a militia group whose leader was originally involved in the Liwa Abu Fadl al-Abbas network, a group of Iraqi Shi'a militiamen operating in Syria as part of the Sayyida Zainab shrine defense narrative. In a statement in June 2014 on the upheaval in Iraq caused by the Islamic State-spearheaded insurgent advances, Liwa Assad Allah al-Ghalib called for the mobilization of "jihadi squadrons" and accused "the Great Satan" (the U.S.) and allied forces of being behind the problem.
The group has since evolved in naming to "Assad Allah al-Ghalib Forces in Iraq and al-Sham" under the leadership of Secretary General Abdullah al-Shabani, with active formations in both countries.
