Kata'ib al-Tayyar al-Risali
Not yet designated terrorist by a Western country Base of operations: Iraq
Kata'ib al-Tayyar al-Risali- also known as just Kata'ib al-Risali- is an Iraqi Shi'a militia affiliated with Sheikh Adnan al-Shahmani, who heads the al-Tayyar al-Risali that has affiliated with the State of Law bloc during Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's premiership. Adnan al-Shahmani has gone on to announce his own bloc within parliament: the "Loyalty to the Resistance" bloc, with the declared intention of supporting the "Islamic Resistance" in Iraq (moniker of Shi'a militias). Reflecting conspiratorial language, the founding statement of that bloc attacked the so-called "evil plans that have emanated from the womb of the Zionists." Politically, the bloc claims loyalty to the ideological legacies of Ayatollah Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr, Ayatollah Muhammad Muhammad Sadeq al-Sadr, and Ayatollah Khomeini. A notable area of operation has been al-Karma in Anbar province to the west of Baghdad.
