The National Ideological Resistance in Syria ('Al-Muqawama al-Wataniya al-Aqa'idiya fi Souria') is a group whose leader claims was set up in Tartous province in 2009 to conduct operations against Israel. While no evidence has emerged of attacks against Israel that can be attributed to this group, it has nonetheless emerged as a militia in support of the Assad regime, primarily operating in Hama and Aleppo provinces with an outreach base in Tartous province. It is a 'Syrian Hezbollah' group, promoting Shi'afication of Alawite identity in line with the model of governance promoted by Iran and its proxy Hezbollah in Lebanon.
