The Ja'afari Force, also known as Liwa al-Sayyida Ruqayya (The Lady Ruqayya Brigade, referring to Ruqayya and her shrine in the Damascus area), is a Syrian Shi'a militia. Primarily operating in the Damascus area where most of its members come from, the group's earlier 'martyrs' were originally presented as members of the National Defence Forces. Over the course of 2014-2015, the Ja'afari Force emerged as a militia with its own branding, but linked to the Iraqi militia Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada'. The group has subsequently become independent.
