Liwa al-Fatemiyoun
Not yet designated terrorist by a Western country Base of operations: Syria, Iran, Afghanistan Background: Direct Iranian Proxies and their Front Groups Involved in Syria
Liwa al-Fatemiyoun- also using the label 'Hezbollah Afghanistan'- is an Afghan Shi'a Hazara militia that has deployed most notably to Syria to back the Assad regime against the rebels. Officially claiming to defend the Sayyida Zainab shrine in Damascus, like other Iranian proxies, Liwa al-Fatemiyoun draws mainly on the Hazara refugee populations in Syria and Iran. The group's links to the Iranian regime are demonstrated by Revolutionary Guard Corps attendance of funerals for fallen fighter. Liwa al-Fatemiyoun is currently most notably participating in the Assad regime's Deraa and Quneitra offensive to recapture southern border areas and open up a Golan front for Iran against Israel.
