Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas Forces

Not yet designated terrorist by a Western country
Base of operations: Iraq, Syria

The Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas Forces is a Shi'a militia affiliated with Sheikh Aws al-Khafaji, who had previously served in Muqtada al-Sadr's office. Khafaji had reportedly visited Damascus in May 2014 with a reception among Iraqi Shi'a militias fighting in the area, including the leaders of the Rapid Intervention Regiment, Liwa Dhu al-Fiqar as well as members of Liwa al-Imam al-Hussein and one of the founders of Liwa Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas. Khafaji's affinity with the last of these militias is shown by the similarity of names and imagery. His group primarily operates in al-Yusufiya (south Baghdad) and Babil province as far as can be discerned from self-reporting. The group has also deployed to Syria as part of its association with the Iraqi Shi'a networks in Syria.
