Islamic State: "Caliphate"

"Khilāfa"- Arabic for "Caliphate"- has been an enduring part of the Islamic State's discourse since at least September 2013. The emphasis on this project contrasts with Jabhat al-Nusra, which has now declared an Islamic Emirate (essentially a predecessor to the Caliphate) in Syria.
