Shi'a Symbol: Ayatollah Muhammad Muhammad Sadeq al-Sadr
Ayatollah Muhammad Muhammad Sadeq al-Sadr was the father of Iraqi cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, likely assassinated by Saddam's regime in 1999. Distinguishable by the white beard, his portrait is featured frequently on "martyrdom" announcements by Iranian proxy militias of Iraqi Shi'a fighting in Syria, in order to claim continuity with his legacy, to the chagrin of Muqtada al-Sadr.
